CSA Preface

This is the first edition of CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-71, Household and similar electrical appliances — Safety — Part 2-71: Particular requirements for electrical heating appliances for breeding and rearing animals, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-71 (third edition, 2018-01). It replaces CSA C22.2 No. 102:1958, Brooders and incubators. It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as “CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-71” throughout. This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CSA C22.2 No. 60335-1:16, Household and similar electrical appliances — Safety — Part 1: General requirements (adopted IEC 60335-1:2010 +A1:2013, with Canadian deviations). This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Subcommittee on Safety of Household Electrical Appliances and the CSA Subcommittee on Safety of Electrically-Operated Farm Appliances, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products and the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

NOTE 101 This standard applies to heating appliances used for livestock rearing and breeding that include an electrical motor.

NOTE 102 Attention is drawn to the fact that: – for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary; – in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.

NOTE 103 This standard does not apply to: – appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes; – appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas); – heating units embedded in the floor; – flexible sheet heating elements for room heating (IEC 60335-2-96); – room heaters (IEC 60335-2-30).
